Hundreds of brave sailors raced about 60 Gumis down the Murrumbidgee River on Sunday.
The annual event drew a huge crowd to Wagga Beach as they waited to see just who would win the iconic “World Championship”.
Dave Smit took out the open race once again, smashing the seven-kilometre course in just under an hour.
While some competitors were looking to defend their titles, others were just out on the river for a good time.
The RAAF team won the award for best decorated – their Gumi was dressed up like a fighter jet.
Andrew Roberts from South Wagga Apex was at the Eunony Bridge starting point and said there had been a pretty good response this year.
“It’s an iconic event and there’s always good attendance,” Mr Roberts said.
“All the Gumis are creative this year, although some have needed a couple of engineering tips.”
Tim Anderson’s Gumi looked more like an off-roader than a watercraft at first glance, but the trademark inner tubes were there and his crew was ready for some fun.
On top of a homemade table frame were two Toyota Landcruiser seats, a bullbar with spotlights and a radio “for some cool tunes”. An inbuilt esky and cup holders kept the crew well hydrated while an umbrella protected them from the sun.
“It’s a day to have fun,” Mr Anderson said.
“I built it all myself from scratch and we do regular river floats on it too.”
