• Construction foreman, Alan Pearson, said a 110-foot-high crane was being used in construction of the new Wagga City Council multi-storey administration centre.
• The Mayor, Ald R J Harris took the salute at a march past of 2000 apprentices and trainees at Forest Hill RAAF Base.
• Mr Pat Mathews, manager of the Rural Bank in Wagga, will retire soon after 50 years of continuous service with the bank.
• Harold Fife has been re-elected to his sixth consecutive term as president of the Wagga RSL sub-branch. Vice presidents are Mr C Knott, Mr R Conveny and Mr B Geale.
• The Mayor, Ald R J Harris presented badges of Office at the Wagga Christian Brothers High School to school captain, Paul Oakley, vice-captain, Michael Hedditch and prefects.
• The Wagga branch of the Australian Labor Party will ask Council to consider establishment of a school children’s play centre.
• Council is calling tenders for reconstruction of the cattle yards at the Wagga Saleyards.
• Thieves stole rings worth nearly $4000 in a smash and grab raid at Phillipe’s Jewellers in Baylis Street
• Abattoir manager, Leo Bird said the drought was probably to blame for a reduction in sleep slaughtered recently by about 50 per cent.
• Lake Albert captain and all-rounder Stan Dasey, who took 7-21 in a recent club match is considered one of the best Wagga and district side players.
