The Eagles have decided to open the gates to the public and hold an open training session at midday at Robertson Oval.
West Coast will use Wagga as a short-term base ahead of Saturday’s pre-season clash with Greater Western Sydney (GWS) at Narrandera Sportsground.
It will be the first time the club has visited the Riverina in their 30-year history when they arrive on Thursday.
The Eagles have stated they are likely to bring a largely young and inexperienced squad east, sprinkled by a handful of bigger names.
Classy midfielder Chris Masten is one player to put his hand up for selection, while high-profile recruit Drew Petrie has also indicated his desire to play against the Giants.
“I wouldn’t mind playing all of the (pre-season games). I don’t mind having a kick,” Masten said.
“This team we’ll take over is probably a little bit young-ish but there will be sprinkled through some senior players as well. We’ve just got to go out there and start the year off with a good game.”
Masten said the playing group was already aware of the Riverina’s reputation.
“I suppose it’s going to be pretty hot. I saw the forecast for Narrandera and it’s like 46 or something,” he said with a laugh.
One player that won’t be playing at Narrandera is Eagles draftee Willie Rioli after he tore his hamstring last week. The Eagles have also confirmed that Sam Mitchell will not travel to Wagga.
