About 4.30pm on Friday, police were called to a Macauley Street, address and found two cages in the front yard containing several small animals.
The cages were in full sun and officers reportedly couldn’t see any water in the cages.
According to Inspector John Aichinger from Deniliquin Local Area Command, one cage contained dead animals and the other stressed animals.
“Police believe this was due to the extreme temperatures, which exceeded 45 degrees,” Inspector Aichinger said.
“The matter is being investigated with the owner of the animals yet to be formally interviewed.”
