The fire at Currawarna is now under control but Rural Fire Service operations officer Brad Stewart says it could have been a lot worse.
Mr Stewart said on a total-fire-ban day with a north-westerly wind, the blaze would have travelled straight into town.
Six RFS trucks arrived at the scene on Friday afternoon and volunteers had the fire under control within an hour.
While no property loss was reported, Mr Stewart said more than 10 acres of state forest had been destroyed and as yet, the cause was still unknown.
Seven more trucks and volunteers will remain at the scene until the area is completely “blacked out”.
Motorists are advised to drive at 60-kilometres per hour as they pass firefighters by the roadside.
