Emergency services personnel have praised the Wagga community as major incidences appeared to have been avoided this Australia Day.

Extra paramedics and police officers were added to teams overnight in preparation for the onslaught of accidents and potential assaults that generally occurring on public holidays due to an increased consumption of alcohol.
Wagga station officer Darren Rudd said while night shift was busy, everyone was still relatively well behaved.
“I expected trouble late in the afternoon,” Mr Rudd said.
“But I actually thought it was fairly quiet.”
The senior paramedic said it was great to see social media groups promoting group-outdoor activities across town.
“I saw someone had put up a backyard cricket invitation on Facebook – they needed fielders,” he said.
“I think it’s a great idea.”
Mr Rudd said days like New Years and Australia Day with no significant increases in emergency calls for help were always appreciated.
While emergency department presentations were up, staff say the workload was manageable.
Wagga police inspector Peter Robertson said he was pleased to report a quiet night across town.
