The ceremony was to have been held next Tuesday, January 31, and involved the Attorney-General, Gabrielle Upton, the Chief Magistrate of the NSW Local Court, Graeme Henson, and member for Wagga, Daryl Maguire.
But the shock retirement of premier Mike Baird last week and the election of Gladys Berejiklian as his replacement on Monday has thrown those plans out the window.
There are no suggestions Ms Upton will be moved from Attorney-General, but the uncertainty of the reshuffle – likely to be later this week or early next week – has led to organisers adopting a safety-first approach to the important event. A new date will be set after the Attorney-General is confirmed.
Meanwhile, new security arrangements are in place at the courthouse.
People entering the complex at certain times must walk through a metal detector and put belongings through an x-ray machine. The airport-style technology will operate on list days and at other times when the Sheriff’s Officer identifies a heightened risk.
