Wagga’s Leon Hemmings, 13, and his partner Antonio Kristo, 13, lost in the third set in a super tie-breaker.
They lost the first set 6-1, recovered in the second to win 6-2, and had two match points in their favour, up 9-7, before surrendering the set 11-9, in the rollercoaster match at Wangaratta.
Hemmings has another stab at the title next year.
Hemmings has been selected to play in the 14’s NSW Super League, a talent identification program starting in February.
He’s one of just 24 players invited to have a competitive hit-out, grouped into six teams of four, at Sydney Olympic Park each Saturday morning.
Known for his quick, sharp volleys, doubles tennis has been his forte.
Earlier in the week, in the singles competition, Hemmings was knocked out in the first round, where he met the fourth seed.
