The elderly bashing victim has spoken to The Daily Advertiser for the first time since he was horrifically bashed inside an aged care facility this month.
Mr MacGregor, 88, was given the green light to return to The Haven after being granted an AVO against his alleged attacker this week.
His alleged assailant, 69, is undergoing psychiatric assessment and is not at The Haven.
“Thank you to all my friends for what they have done,” Mr MacGregor said.
“For all my friends and companions, please continue to keep in contact with me.
“It is good to finally be home again.”
The 88-year-old overcame life-threatening bleeding on the brain after he was viciously assaulted after an alleged dispute over a stolen coffee mug.
His family now hope he will be able to ease back into his normal life.
“We are thrilled that Mac is finally back in the home he loves,” his niece, Alison Mortimer, said.
“There have been a lot of sleepless nights but it has been worthwhile.
“This has shown us that there are problems with current laws and our battle is far from over.”
It is good to finally be home again.
