• Wagga based Kendell Airlines has been named Regional Airline of the Year by Air Transport World magazine only the second time that the award has been won by a non-US airline.

• Former Governor of NSW, Lieutenant-General Sir Eric Woodward, officially opened the $75,000 Kurrajong Home for intellectually handicapped children.
• Two 16-year-old Wagga Boy Scouts, John Worthington and Brian Osborne, are paddling down the Murrumbidgee from Gundagai to Narrandera in an attempt to beat a record of five days set recently by five Narrandera boys.
• Ald Cec Toy was returned unopposed as chairman of the Southern Riverina County Council.
• President of the Community Advancement, Mr G Cox said this year’s profit of $3439 from the Miss Wagga Quest was the highest since the quest was constituted along its present lines.
• Former RVN-2 television announcer, Paul Griffiths, married Robyn Whitehead, formerly of Wagga at St James Church of England, Turramurra.
• The Assistant Minister for Education, Wal Fife, is seeking a Federal Government decision to establish a University College in the Riverina.
• Captain Alan Byrnes has been appointed as a new Salvation Army Officer for the Wagga District.
• Wagga is hosting the largest annual gathering of Alcoholics Anonymous outside of Australian capital cities.
