Eleven-year-old Ivy Simpson’s passion for dance has grown every year since starting lessons at Wagga Academy of Ballet.
The 11-year-old was five when she started. It was her love of music and singing which saw her start dancing.
“I love learning new stuff and going in Eisteddfods for the love of dance not to win,” Ivy said.
Ivy’s mum, Bridget Simpson, said the classes have fostered Ivy’s love for music and dance.
“It’s like soul food for her,” Mrs Simpson said.
“I see her passion grow, even though I think it can’t, every year.”
“My daughter doesn’t walk anywhere, she skips or dances.”

Wagga Academy of Ballet principal Leanne Nicol ensures that classes and choreography are all age appropriate.
“As a parent I love that they keep the little girls as young little girls and not grow them up too soon,” Mrs Simpson said.
“It’s just very nice, it’s all about the dance – it’s not a show with props.
“Regardless of skill level everyone is featured at the front (during a show) and made to feel important.”
Classes continuing this term include pointe preparation which is a safe method of training for dance “en pointe.”
“This is every little ballerinas ultimate aim,” Ms Nicol said.
“We will be running a progressing ballet technique session which helps to enhance ballet technique and training.”
