Hunter will land in Australia on Friday as Robbie Byatt’s men look to move up the Group Nine ladder.
Greens president Larry Collins believes he will be a good addition to the club.
While only 20, he believes Hunter’s size will add plenty of firepower to the backline.
“He’s 20, six foot four and plays in the centres,” Collins said. “He is pretty keen.”
The Greens remain on the hunt for more players.
Collins said the club is chasing another big forward to complement their existing pack.
One of those could be a Fijian forward, with the Greens currently working through visa applications to have three imports next season.
They have confirmed English halfback Jordan Anderson will return for his second year at the club.
However, lock Casey Johnson’s future at the club isn’t as concrete.
“Jordan is coming back,” Collins said. “I think he has a girlfriend in town.
“Casey Johnson may not be back, he might be, but we are not too sure.
“He has been talking to us, but he got very home sick.”
Former junior Brent Wake is one Tumbarumba has been working on coming back to town.
Wake has been playing for Kiama and hasn’t ruled out a return for the Greens.
“We were talking to him, but I’m not sure it is going to be the case,” Collins said.
“He is weighing up his options as he has a good job and is building a house down there.”
The Greens have set their sights on a rare visit to the Group Nine finals in Byatt’s second year at the helm.
Collins doesn’t believe it is too big a step for the club.
“Our next step is the make the finals,” he said.
“We were unlucky last year and I think just for a couple of games that we lost in the dying stages then we would have definitely been there.”
Collins believes the Greens will have a stronger reserve grade team this season but there are doubts over the number of juniors available and are unlikely to have a Weissel Cup side and are working on filling a Sullivan Cup outfit.
We were unlucky last year and I think just for a couple of games that we lost in the dying stages then we would have definitely been there (in finals).
