Winning the toss and sending Orana Outlaws into bat, the Sloggers got off to the perfect start when Ethan Bartlett struck in the first over.
However from there they struggled to contain the Dubbo-based team’s batting power.
Former Sheffield Shield cricketer Nathan Pilon led the way, scoring 71 runs off 41 balls, before Jordan Moran (75) picked up where he left off.
The pair put on 124 for the second wicket before Aaron Maxwell created a surprise breakthrough.
Bartlett (3-23) and Jack Harper (2-15) were the pick of the bowlers.
While playing on the SCG was a high, Sloggers captain Joel Robinson said performance with the ball wasn’t enough.
“It was a good experience, but we just weren’t good enough,” Robinson said.
“We weren’t consistent enough with our 20 overs with the ball.”
Set a big total to chase down, the hopes of the Wagga team weren’t helped when Bartlett, who scored a century last match, was dismissed for 11 at the start of the second over.
Josh Thompson (20), Aaron Maxwell (37) and Warren Clunes (25) were the best of the batsmen, but partnerships were hard to come by.
“You have to be consistent the whole innings batting wise chasing something like that,” Robinson said.
“We had a couple of small overs and then that makes it hard.”
