This week former NSWCHS coach and current Turvey Park club coach Robert “Jock” Currie was on hand to impart some of his softball knowledge onto the players. At the completion of the tee ball games, Santa slid in and handed out ice creams to all the junior players.
Friday night Tee Ball will recommence on February 10.
In the under 15s, Turvey Park Blue took on Turvey Park Red in the match of the round.
Winless thus far this season, the Turvey Park Blue team was desperate to get a win on the board before the approaching Christmas recess. Heading into the game as clear favourites, Turvey Park Reds failed to capitalise on Blues’ shaky start.
Sensing a major upset was on the cards, the Turvey Park Blue players gained in confidence, an Anneka Piercy home run and solid performances by Kayla Horne and Tahli Turner ensured the Blue team would take a morale-building 9-6 win over Turvey Park Red.
In the other under 15s match, Saints Knights had a comfortable 14-1 win over fierce rivals Turvey Park Yellow.
In the under 12s, Saints Dragons remained undefeated with a hard fought 9-1 win over Turvey Park Red. Simon Timothy-Nesbit and Harry Rynehart had good games for the winners while Sian Breust and Sophie Gooden never stopped trying for Turvey Park.
Turvey Park Yellow maintained their recent good form with a convincing 16-0 win over the improving Saints Crusaders. The closest game of all was that between Turvey Park Blue and Saints Knights. A fine defensive effort from both teams saw the final result a 1-all draw. Warriors had the bye.
In the under 10s tee ball, Turvey Park Red produced a faultless team batting performance in their 28-24 victory over Turvey Park Blue. The Reds managed the maximum seven runs in each of their four completed innings.
To their credit Turvey Park Blue never gave up, only going down by four runs. Better players for the Reds were Lachlan Davis, Sam Livio and Gemma McNaughton while for the Blues, Bella Shuhyta, Ruby Guy and Chanel Karpanen played well.
Saints Knights were too strong for South Wagga Warriors, winning 21-15. For the Saints, Indi Byrnes smashed three home runs. She was well supported by Maddison Turner, Ava Weir and Layla Ellis. For the Warriors none tried harder then Ethan Wilkins, Elan and Ari McLanlan.
In the final game, Saints Dragons accounted for the ever-improving young Blu-Js outfit, winning 21-6. Saints’ best were Molly Stephens and Max Crawford while for Blu-Js, Mia Hughes and Kathryn Hill performed well.
