Emergency services responded to the west Wagga industrial area shortly after 2am after a Triple-0 call was made, alerting them to a building on fire.
When firefighters arrived, the inferno had already reached the roof of the building, rendering it too dangerous for them to enter, Turvey Park Fire and Rescue NSW station officer Justin Bentley said.
“An aerial pumper from Turvey Park was on scene within six minutes to find a commercial building alight (and) the fire had breached through the roof,” he said.
“Given the nature of the building, (the risk of) roof collapse was too dangerous to send firefighters in.”
Further back-up from the Turvey Park and Wagga stations arrived and conducted pre-emptive work to protect neighbouring properties.
The blaze was brought under control within 45 minutes, Mr Bentley said, and the 16 firefighters in attendance stayed on the scene for another two hours.
