Snowy Mountains Animal Rescue Team (SMART) and Riverina And District Animal Rescue (RADAR) have found “forever homes” for almost 500 dogs this year, but there are still more dogs out there in need of a loving family.
However, Lorene Cross from SMART said people really needed to think about whether they could give a dog a home for life.
“It’s a 15 or 20 year commitment,” Ms Cross said. “You can’t just dump them later on.”
RADAR’s Cheryl McCormick said many of the dogs the group gets are perfectly healthy, they just need someone to love them.
Seven-month-old Rescue dog ‘Arna’ was adopted by the Huggett family when she was just two weeks old, needing bottle-feeding. But now she had become part of the family.
“She’s extremely loving and gentle,” Kelly Huggett said.
“A big baby really, she’s very much a people person.”
