Isn't he a minister in the government that wanted 32 cents in the dollar as a tax rate for backpackers?
Wasn't that a federal budget figure?

Our cultural wonderland
I WRITE to express appreciation to the eight choirs that gave of their time and expertise to entertain a large audience at St Michael’s Cathedral.
The Christmas songs were excellent and the audience took part enthusiastically in the well-known carols.
This event underscored the great value to our city’s cultural life of people who give their time in many art forms, whether it be choral works, visual or performing arts or the written word.
Our city has a well-deserved reputation as a vibrant centre for the arts.
Long may that reputation prevail.

Cherry-picking the truth
I’D LIKE to congratulate the good people of Young for another instalment of their National Cherry Festival.
After watching closely and getting plenty of tips when picking some cherries, I would also like to think that I am now qualified for a position in One Nation's fact checking unit.

Cruelty cuts both ways
IT WAS pleasing to read about the huge support for the White Ribbon campaign in Wagga, although disappointing to read about the balloon launch since most balloons end up in the sea where they are swallowed by sea creatures who die as a consequence (“Wagga’s true heart”, The Daily Advertiser, December 2).
Now here's my question.
If violence to women is wrong, and clearly most people agree that it is, how can violence to other females be right?
Female pigs, chickens and cows suffer enormously at the hands of man.
Female pigs quite literally go mad in their body hugging concrete and metal crates.
Female chickens endure unimaginable suffering inside small wire cages in which they can't even take one step.
Each year, dairy cows are forced to give birth and each year their beloved new-born babies are torn from their side and killed causing them enormous distress.
Why is it okay to inflict suffering on these females but not inflict suffering on human females?
They've never done anything to deserve it and there's certainly no need for it.
Exploiting these females is solely about greed, not need.
Isn't it time we opened our eyes - and our hearts - and condemned violence to all females?
