Coolamon coach Matt Hard and former Temora and Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong counterpart Christin Macri both took to social media on Monday to voice their disbelief as Gibbons’ fortunes.
Gibbons, 21, won this year’s JJ Liston Trophy for best and fairest player in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and finished the regular season as the competition’s top-ranked player for total disposals, uncontested possessions and inside 50s
The Coolamon junior won the Norm Goss Medal for best-on-ground in Williamstown’s VFL grand final win in 2015, while this year he also claimed the Frank Johnson Medal for best afield in the state game.
Hard said it was ‘astounding’, while Macri labelled it as a 'disgrace’.
