Highway patrol officers from the Cootamundra Local Area Command noticed a Toyota Rav4 speeding in the right hand lane around 1.20am on Friday morning.
A check revealed the small SUV was allegedly travelling at 171km/h in the 110km/h zone at Tumblong, near Gundagai.
Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, a 23-year-old man from Yagoona.
They they discovered the young man was a P2 licence holder – limited to 100km/h – wasn’t displaying P plates and didn’t have his licence with him.
That licence was instantly suspended for six months and officers issued the man with fines tallying $3036 for a range of offences, including exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and not carrying a licence.
