The Trevor Sutherland-trained Cosmo Star set social media abuzz after being sensationally backed from as much as $61 into $5.00 before his debut at Canberra.
Cosmo Star showed good speed out of the barriers to sit outside the leader but knocked up in the straight to be beaten 14 lengths.
The race was won by Joe Cleary’s filly Lucy Rose ($2.90), in a photo finish from Peter Robl’s Curdled ($2.80).
Some of the money behind the plunge was attributed to a group on Facebook ‘Blokes Advice Punting Group’ where it was tipped to the 21,000 members.
Meantime, Wagga trainer Gary Colvin enjoyed a winner on Wodonga Cup day.
Miss Belle Geddes ($2.80) returned from a spell with an all-the-way win in the $20,000 Maiden Plate (1100m).
Loyalty Man ($3.00) took out the Wodonga Cup.
