Macreadie is one of Riverina’s best chances of being picked up in the AFL Draft and he will watch it all unfold from the family farm at Henty, alongside parents Dale and Megan.

Greater Western Sydney (GWS) will get first crack at Macreadie due to him coming through the Giants’ Academy program but the 18-year-old is unsure what to expect.

“I’ve got no idea at the moment,” Macreadie said.

“The clubs don’t give you much so I don’t know what to expect, it’s hard to know.

“I’d say I’m the same chance as going to GWS as I am of going anywhere else at this point.

“I don’t mind, we’re in the middle at Henty, it’s about the same to Sydney and Melbourne, so it doesn’t matter too much.

“All I want is to be picked up and it would be a good surprise if it happened.”

Macreadie said the nerves have already set in ahead of Friday night, hitting his mum the hardest.

“I’m a little bit nervous, but not too bad,” he said.

“It’s more Mum, she’s pretty nervous.”

Macreadie said it would be everything to be given a shot at an AFL career.

“It would mean a lot, to be honest,” he said.

“It would be a dream come true, really. Like most of the other boys, I have been working so hard for a lot of years so it would be a dream come true.”

Macreadie played in Henty’s 2014 Hume League premiership as a 16-year-old and has since been busy with representative commitments.

The key defender spent the past two seasons with the AFL Academy, while also playing with NSW-ACT Rams and GWS’ reserve grade team in the NEAFL.

Macreadie started the year as a potential first round selection but AFL experts have since tipped him to go at a selection in the 30s.

“My year was probably not as good as my underage year,” he said.

“There was a lot of travelling but it was a really good experience.”

Seven AFL clubs held discussions with Macreadie at the AFL Combine, four of which have since travelled to Henty to meet with him again.
