Barrett is one of several Riverina footballers counting down the days to Friday’s AFL Draft as he looks to resurrect his career at another club.
Barrett, 21, only managed one AFL game in three years at Greater Western Sydney (GWS) as he struggled to break into the Giants’ quality midfield.
The Farrer League premiership player was delisted by the Giants earlier this month as he looked to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Barrett is unsure how he is positioned ahead of Friday’s draft.
“There has been a bit of interest from a few clubs so I’ve just got to wait and see,” Barrett said.
“I’m obviously hoping for something to happen on Friday, but if not definitely on Monday (in the rookie draft).
“I don’t know what to expect.”
If no opposition club select Barrett on Friday, then the Giants are expected to add him to the club’s rookie list in Monday’s AFL Pre-season and Rookie Draft.
Ideally, Barrett would love a second chance at AFL football elsewhere.
“The Giants have a really good side at the moment and it’s pretty hard to crack into the team,” he said.
“They’re a great bunch of boys but the way they have been winning, it’s hard to change a winning side so I’m hoping to get an opportunity somewhere else.”
While not able to break into GWS’ AFL team, Barrett dominated at NEAFL level.
