“Josh will provide great support for incoming coach Tuki Jackson, and he will also provide coaching with individuals across all grades,” president Rick O’Connell said.
The former NRL lower-grader made an enormous impact in six years at the Thunder, claiming a hat-trick of titles from 2012.
He coached the under 18s in 2015, but took last season off.
“I’m excited and looking forward to getting back involved,” Cale said.
“I’ll do a lot of specialised training and do a lot of video work as well.
“I’m more than happy to help out in any way I can.”
The 34-year-old will retain his role as coach of the Riverina representative outfit.
The country championships are now an under 23 competition, with Riverina set to play the Melbourne Storm’s 20s in Albury in February.
