The Australian-owned air carrier aims to touch down at the Wagga airport in early 2017 to run domestic flights to the Queensland capital for the first time – providing all “goes to plan”. 

Regional airline mogul and Jetgo managing director Paul Bredereck revealed the timing of Jetgo’s arrival in Wagga depends on the delivery of its new aircraft from the United States.

The Daily Advertiser understands the aircraft is slated to land on Australian soil in January, pending regulatory and customs approvals.

The 36-seat Embraer jet, which is manufactured in America, can reach speeds of 850km/h and will complete a journey from Wagga to Brisbane in just 1 hour and 40 minutes. 

The initial plan is to fly from Brisbane to Wagga and back again on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – but the frequency could increase if demand builds.

Typical prices are expected to be similar to those on the Albury to Brisbane route, ranging between $200 and $549 depending on seat availability.

Mr Bredereck said the larger 44 or 50-seat aircraft could be used if they are required. 

The 100-minute flight time would drastically cut the travel time to Brisbane, which is currently an all-day journey via Sydney airport.

A survey of Daily Advertiser readers found that an overwhelming 97.02 per cent of recipients would pay to fly between Wagga and Brisbane. 

Wagga-born army wife Letitia Nicholl – who lives in Townsville – said the service will alleviate the struggles faced travelling to and from the Riverina. 

“Both my family and my husband’s family are in Wagga but we can only go home every two years because it’s just too expensive,” Mrs Nicholl said.

“I’d come back more often for sure, I have nieces and nephews I barely know, one was born in April and I haven’t met him yet, so visiting more often would be great.”

Jetgo’s Embraer jets fly up to 38,000 feet, above most turbulence, and is considered faster than most commercial airbuses. 

The service currently runs five flights to and from Albury every week, having launched in the Murray region back in July. An exact launch date will be available in the coming months.
