Days after announcing Warren Lloyd will coach the club, Bulldogs president Mark Kennedy revealed the former Brothers front rower has agreed to terms.
Clune has spent the last five seasons with Group 20 club Hay, including time as co-coach.
Kennedy believes he will be a big asset for the club.
“We are looking around for a front rower and I believe he was looking for a change to come back to Group Nine,” Kennedy said.
Cootamundra are expected to retain the core of last year’s team, but are still searching for more players.
Finding another centre is one the main aims.
The Bulldogs were set to secure the services of Brayden Sharrock from Brothers before the 28-year-old “backflipped” on the deal.
Sharrock has been with the Brethren since his junior days and was tempted by a move, but decided to stay put.
“We haven’t been all that successful in the last few years and it starts to get a little bit frustrating and I thought a change might have been alright,” Sharrock said.
“I went to some clubs who I felt I could help them go forward and Coota were one of them.
“I was pretty much all but going but had another chat with Brothers and I think with a new president now they are trying to go forward.”
