Steele has accepted an assistant coaching position and will head to Holbrook with Lions teammates Lachlan Parker and Travis Collison.
Steele’s departure comes just days after James Lawton announced that he is leaving GGGM after two years back at his home club.
In the space of a week, GGGM have lost Lawton, Steele, Adam Cullen, Brandon Rigney, Parker and Collison. The club is also yet to announce an off-season signing.
Steele is excited to take on the assistant coach role under Carlton premiership player Adrian Whitehead.
“The last couple of years I’ve been looking at an assistant coaching role,” Steele said.
“So it’s a good chance to do it under a high profile coach out there and try to learn a bit from him.”
Steele is considered one of the most exciting players in the Riverina League and won four premierships with the Lions.
The 25-year-old speedster said it was a tough decision to leave GGGM.
“Definitely, it always is. I’ve been there since I was 16,” Steele said.
“It was always going to be tough to leave but the best thing about it is that I’ve left on good terms and can always go back there down the track.”
Holbrook finished on the bottom of the Hume League ladder last season but Steele is confident the Brookers will improve.
“We’ve started to pick up,” he said.
“I’m not going to say we will be the best but we’re definitely going to improve on what they were last year.”
Parker only managed six games this year before a knee injury ended his season. Collison played in the Lions’ reserve grade grand final.
Holbrook have also added Charlie White and Gus Keogh from The Rock-Yerong Creek, along with Tallangatta ruckman Aaron Baker and former captain Brendan Hanckel.
GGGM coach Luke Sicker has been on an overseas holiday for a few weeks and will return to significant player departures.
