Predictions suggests locals could see the river peak could rise slightly higher than current major flooding levels and stay above normal levels for the next week or so.

“Looking at the previous events along the river we are urging people to remain aware,” a SES spokesman said.

“We are anticipating that the river will fall steady over the next week as the peak passes through the town.”

The safety of the town will continue to be monitored as the river moves through.

“The council and SES workers have been onsite throughout this event monitoring the bank,” they said.

“With the water level at its current level we are confident that there should be no risk to the town from any sort of fault from the levee.” 

The SES will continue to have additional resources in the town in case of emergency. 

“At this stage we don’t think that the resources will be needed,” they said.

“In instances such as this it it better to be on the side of caution.”
