It was the opening night for April in Paris, a comedy about a couple unhappy with their lives who go to France in a bid to reinvigorate their relationship.
Those in attendance on Thursday were also treated to a bonus from Wagga Alliance Francaise’s La Choral Francaise, serenading audiences before the curtain rose.
The play is brought to Wagga for a two week season by the School of Arts Community Theatre and is directed by Fay Walters.
Ms Walters said she is hoping the northern hemispehere humour and minimal set, bar a striking Eiffel Tower, will appeal to a wide audience.
“It’s a minimal set but it is beautiful,” she said.
The story is an English comedy.”
The play was easy to follow and a good introduction to the world of theatre, Ms Walters said.
“For people who have never seen theatre I would recommend it,” she said.
April in Paris is showing in the Basement Theatre until November 6.
Tickets at $25 for adults and $20 for concession.
