The Wanderers were competitive, but had more losses than wins last season.
Whyman wants to turn that statistic around.
One season in, Whyman, 17, has been boosted up the ranks, from the squad’s second choice in goals, to the top pick.
Whyman’s well-acquainted with high-pressure situations. She’s been flat-out at a Young Matildas training camp this week.
The girls represent Australia in China at the Asian Football Confederation Under-19 Women’s Championship qualifiers next week. Young Matildas aim to win both games in China, to qualify for the World Cup. In the lead-up to the AFC Qualifiers, Whyman relished playing in goals at practice-matches against W-League greats Sydney FC and Canberra United.
Whyman has spent the off-season training with and playing for the Young Matildas and playing in the National Premier League competition, where she won the Golden Glove for the second year running.
Whyman will miss the first match of the W-League, in Perth on November 6, due to Young Matildas commitments in China.
She will burst onto the scene a week later, playing Sydney FC on November 13 at 2.30pm.
