The Wagga Sloggers will take on Murrumbidgee Rangers in the first round of the statewide competition.
While in its second year, after replacing the SCG Cup, this time around there are plenty of changes in store for both teams.
A pink ball will be used and there is also a ‘maxi-over’, which allows the batting team to chose one over in which scores are doubled.
Captain Joel Robinson is unsure of how the maxi-over will change the game.
“I don’t know if I am overly happy or convinced on that,” Robinson said.
“There are definitely different scenarios you can use it in, but I think it takes a little bit out of the game itself.”
However he doesn't expect the different coloured ball will have too much of an impact.
“I don’t think batting and looking at it will be an issue,” Robinson said.
“Just bowling with it.”
After a 51-run victory in the corresponding clash last year, Robinson is looking to continue their run over the team based in Griffith.
The Sloggers will also have three marquee players available to play.
Western Districts-UC trio Ethan Bartlett, Joe Cooke and Jack Harper have all been named in the squad.
Harper, who is yet to play for the Canberra club, will play as one of the two under 21 players required against the Rangers.
The Sloggers haven’t had a formal training session in the lead up and with the weather delayed start to the Wagga cricket season could be rusty, but Robinson doesn’t believe it is too much of an issue.
“Most of the boys have been training for eight to 10 week, even more now, and some have been playing in Albury, the Ardlethan comp or Canberra,” he said.
“People are playing everywhere and at least 50 per cent of the team has had a couple of games under their belts so we will be fine.”
The match starts at Exies Oval at 2pm.
The winner will go on to play Border Bullets, at an yet to be determined ground, on November 6.
