An update on the case against alleged killer Bryce Cliff was delivered in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) solicitor, Rennae Gee.
Cliff, 29, is charged with murdering 16-year-old James at his Acacia Street, Kooringal, home on June 7.
Police went to the house about 8pm in response to reports of a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found James dying from multiple injuries.
Paramedics treated James but he died at the scene.
Cliff was arrested at Big Springs within hours of James’ death and has been in custody since.
Ms Gee on Wednesday asked magistrate Michael Crompton for an extension of time for the prosecution to complete its brief of evidence against Cliff.
As well as examining the computer and mobile telephone, certain crime scene evidence was still to be finalised, she said.
The extension was not opposed by defence solicitor John Weir acting as agent for a Surry Hills legal firm.
Mr Crompton granted the extension until December 2 and adjourned the case until December 7 for the defence team to reply to the brief.
Cliff, of Wollongong, has not entered a plea to the murder charge.
He did not appear in court for the mention of his case.
Police allege that after inflicting fatal injuries on James, Cliff went to another Kooringal house – in Tichborne Crescent – and violently stole a car, which he allegedly drove to Big Springs.
That led to charges of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (larceny) and take and drive conveyance without the consent of the owner.
Cliff has not entered pleas to those charges, either.
James Cleghorn was a popular Year 11 student at Kooringal High School.
He was a member of the student representative council.
Classmates and friends described James as a “gentle, beautiful soul”.
His violent death saddened and mystified the community.
