Wagga Health Service corporate and business manager Michael Morris said the demolition of the old tower will be completed by the end of the month.
The rest of the year will be spent cleaning up the site before the new forecourt and 40 car spaces are built in the new year.
“It will pave the way for much improved access for patients and visitors,” Mr Morris said.
“They will be able to walk straight into the new building, where at the moment they are having to detour through the old part of the hospital.
The total hospital redevelopment, which includes new aged care and ambulatory facilities, is expected to be completed after 2020.
