You’re the bees knees
THANK you Jenny Moxham (DA, Letters, “Justice for animals”, October 13) for responding to my letter and confirming that you actually don’t eat honey and so show your genuine concern for bees and their offspring.

The genuineness of your consistent concern for animals and even for bees is commendable and I respect you for it.
Here’s a feather in your cap.

NRMA betrays residents
WHAT a disappointment to see the NRMA will not be renewing its contract for Coolamon and Ariah Park as of September next year.
The service has been up and running for over 50 years, providing our communities with a frequently used and well-valued service.
The service currently provides an average response time of approximately 20 minutes, a time-frame set to increase markedly as patrolmen are deployed from Wagga, Temora or Junee.
This poor decision by the NRMA will result in people waiting on the side of the road for an indeterminate period of time in rural and remote locations.
Ariah Park is a 103km distance from Wagga, a distance which takes over an hour to travel.
For a patrolman to travel such a distance and reach the customer within a shorter timeframe is an impossible feat.
This goes against the principles of the NRMA, which has a focus on aiming to reach members in need of roadside assistance within the hour.
If the changes to the provision of roadside assistance within the Coolamon Shire goes ahead as planned, residents will be left isolated on remote roads for a minimum of an hour.
This is simply unacceptable.
This is concerning, as not only are people increasingly time poor, but it is also unsafe, particularly for lone travellers.
Young women and the elderly are also left vulnerable, a fact made more concerning when you consider that Coolamon has a high population of older residents.
As a young woman, I definitely would feel unsafe, particularly if I was stranded by the roadside at night.
Not only will our community as a whole suffer greatly from this decision, but our thoughts must go to our local patrolmen Craig Corrigan from Coolamon and Noel Walker of Ariah Park, both of who have been working with the NRMA for decades.
This decision is likely to now jeopardise the businesses of two hard working men who have provided years of outstanding service to the communities in which they live.
The NRMA needs to seriously reconsider its decision.
The Coolamon community has created a Facebook page to rally together to save our NRMA road service.

Come clean, Premier
ON JULY 8, I wrote to the Premier on the subject of the council amalgamations and the prospect of huge rate rises because of the forced amalgamation, contrary to assurances of no rate rises for four years given by the Premier.
Apparently, rate rises are still on the agenda.
Why has Baird gone back on his word to the people of NSW on no rate rises for four years after amalgamations?
No mention was made of this previously and it appears to be only recently concocted.
Baird has become infamous for his backflips lately and this appears to be yet another one of these ridiculous backflips.
What a joke.
