Shortly after 1.30am on Friday morning, Wagga police began tailing a taxi after the officers noticed the vehicle being driven erratically.
Police pulled the taxi over on Lake Albert Road, which had two passengers inside, and performed a breath test.
The middle-aged driver was taken to Wagga police station where he recorded a reading of 0.056.
In NSW, taxi drivers must have a blood alcohol reading less than 0.02.
The Daily Advertiser understands the man had been previously reported on multiple occasions for being under the influence while driving a taxi.
Wagga Taxis confirmed the man was under an immediate suspension from work, but declined to comment further while the matter is before the court.
