The Wagga product was named as an emergency for the grand final team, but had to watch on as the Swans went down to the Western Bulldogs.
The 22-year-old wants to use the disappointing end to the season to become a better footballer in 2017.
“It was definitely a tough day for all involved, but not being involved was very, very disappointing,” Cunningham said.
“I didn’t get to play a finals game this year and it makes me hungrier to do better and get better next year.
“I was definitely was hard to watch but we are all proud of the boys who went out there and played on the day.
“Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way.”
Cunninghan has played 70 games of AFL since debuting for the Swans in round one of 2012.
He is determined to work his way back into the team after an up and down season.
“It just makes you hungrier and more determined to get there and have an impact on the team,” he said.
“Hopefully go one team next year and be part of something special.
“I’ll be training over the next six months to get back there and hopefully get a game in round one and go from there.”
Cunningham in looking for more consistency after admitting his form wasn’t up to standard at times.
Cunningham was part of the Pillars of Strength Charity Golf Day on Friday.
