The club has lodged its formal application to make the move away from the Griffith competition.
Football Wagga is in the process of reviewing the Leeton bid and president Erwin Budde said it hasn't raised any red flags at this stage.
“We’re going through it and reviewing it but the general sentiment and general feel is that everyone’s pretty excited about Leeton’s application going through,” Budde said.
“They’re looking at bringing across first grade, reserve grade, third grade and one women’s team.”
Budde believes the addition of Leeton will add strength to the competition and doesn’t believe travel will prove an issue.
Football Wagga has been consulting extensively with its clubs – a process that will conclude at the organisation’s general meeting on Wednesday night.
“It’s up to the board to determine affiliation requests but we do that in consultation with all our clubs,” he said.
“We’re finishing that up next week and following that we should be able to provide confirmation.
“The clubs are all very positive and players I think feel the same. It’s building on a lot of hard work three or four years ago to make changes to the competition.
“I think we’re seeing some of the fruits of hard work with a strong, stable competition and interest from outside. We had Young a couple of years ago, and now Leeton.”
Competition draws will be done in March. All clubs are required to affiliate, or re-affiliate, with Football Wagga at the end of January and then have a month to nominate teams.
