Police warn of phone scam targeting elderly Riverina residents

POLICE have warned of a phone scam in the Riverina targeting elderly residents after they received several reports of fraud. 

It is alleged the victims have been contacted by a person claiming to work for Australian Tax Officer or Centrelink, who demands an “owing” sum of money. 

The con has flagged concerns after several residents were robbed of money.

Officers attached to Deniliquin Local Area Command are investigating reports and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
