Ganmain’s Clare Lawton will play for Greater Western Sydney (GWS) after being picked up by the Giants in Wednesday’s AFL Women’s Draft.
Lawton, 22, was picked up by the Giants with selection 97.
Parents Jed and Liz are extremely proud.
“We’re very proud. It’s great for her,” Jed said.
Lawton went to school at St Brendan’s Primary School at Ganmain and Kildare Catholic College before going to boarding school at Assumption College.
She played junior football with Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong up until under 12s and even represented South West juniors against Broken Hill.
Lawton played with the Riverina Lions in recent times before joining the Army, where she has excelled at a number of sports.
She has been touted as a potential key position player for the Giants.
