Warren Clunes has been installed as captain this season.
Jon Nicoll, who was captain-coach last season, will remain as coach as the Cats aim to return to Wagga cricket grand final.
The club has fallen short one win short of the decider in the last two seasons, and Clunes wants to take the club back to the biggest match of the year.
He can’t wait for the chance to lead the team onto the field once more
“It will be good,” Clunes said.
“I’ve been captain and coach at the club in the past so it will be good to get that role again.
“Hopefully we can improve on what he did last year and make it through to the final.”
The 30-year-old was coach during Wagga City’s first premiership season in 2012-13 and captain the previous year.
He wants to use his experience to help guide the younger generation at the club.
“Jonny are I are probably the two grandpas of the team now,” Clunes said.
“Everyone else are all young kids so it is just a bit of a change up for the guys.
“I will be working hand in hand with Jonny as we always do so hopefully it will freshen things up a bit.”
While the Cats have had a slow start to the pre-season due to the weather they have one confirmed change.
Young gun Jack Harper has moved to Canberra as he looks to further his promising future.
“That will be good for his and his younger brother (Max) will step up into our first grade side,” Clunes said.
“He played a fair bit of last year and now that the season is pushed backed we will have to wait and see what comes up.
“We should be pretty similar to last year.”
With the delayed start to the season due to bad weather, Clunes and Nicoll are considering playing for former club Weston Creek Molonglo in their first three weeks of the one-day competition in Canberra.
Clunes only returned from the Canberra cricket season halfway through last season while Nicoll hasn’t played for the club since the 2011-12 season where he averaged 104.40.
A decision is expected later in the week, but would ensure two of the most important Cats would have plenty of play under their belts for the season opener.
They will take on premiers Lake Albert in the first round of the season on November 5.
The Bulls scored a two-wicket win when the two teams clashed in last season’s preliminary final.
