After three years helping East Wagga-Kooringal to the top of the Farrer League, Geppert has decided to return ‘home’ to Crossroads Oval.
Geppert put pen to paper with the Demons on Wednesday night, less than a month after the Hawks’ drought-breaking premiership success.
Geppert always planned to return to Collingullie and believes now is the right time.
“The goal at the start was to go across to East Wagga and try to be apart of making them successful again,” Geppert explained.
“Obviously winning the flag this year helped with the decision.
“With the old man (Lindsay) still involved at Collingullie, definitely at a junior level, I classify it at my home club and was always going to go back there at some stage.”
Geppert booted 327 goals in his three seasons at Gumly Oval and was a key ingredient in the Hawks’ rise to Farrer League powerhouse.
He also has a rich history at Collingullie with 584 goals from 111 games to go with three Farrer League premierships.
Geppert wants to help new coach Luke Gestier achieve premiership success at Collingullie.
“With Luke Gestier, a first year coach, signing on for next year, it’s a new challenge,” he said.
“When you get to my age, there’s probably not too many new challenges that you can get at that age so I’m looking forward to getting back and pushing Collingullie back to a grand final.
“I think it’s going to refresh me again, which is good.”
Gestier is thrilled to begin his time as coach with the signature of Geppert.
“It’s amazing. It’s good for the club and builds momentum going into next year so it’s exactly what we wanted,” Gestier said.
It will also help form the most lethal forward combination in the Riverina League with Collingullie set to boast Geppert, Gestier and James Morris.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do with us all. I might have to play down back,” Gestier laughed.
