The representative team is due to face Murrumbidgee Rangers in Griffith on October 30, but recent wet weather has put a dampener on plans after the new T20 competition was cancelled with grounds unable to be prepared in time.
Wagga executive member Owen Thompson said the association was now looking at having a possibles and probables game in order to give potential players some time in the middle.
“The idea of the T20 competition was to give the boys a hit, have a look at people in the different format and help selection,” Thompson said.
“We have to try and rally around and are looking to have a possibles and probables in the lead up.”
On a brighter note, Thompson revealed Ethan Bartlett will be one of the marquee signings for the team.
There is hope others will join the Western Districts-UC pace man, but they are yet to be confirmed pending other cricket commitments.
Another bonus is this season, the match was slated down to be played at Exies Oval this season, after the inaugural clash at Robertson Oval last season.
Griffith is one of the few associations that hasn’t been too affected by the wet weather, with its first grade competition to start on Saturday.
Thompson is expecting to be greeted by good conditions.
“They can get turf wickets up earlier than us in normally,” Thompson said. “Exies is outstanding and they’ve just had a lighting upgrade.”
