Three Riverina teams have been scattered, with under 12 boys playing in Sydney, under 15 boys playing in Griffith and under 14 girls off to Mudgee.
With one game yet to play, Riverina under 15’s are shoo-ins for the country championship, having defeated Country Western 3-1 and Country Southern 2-0.
The Riverina squad has been competitive against metro counterparts, defeating Metro North 2-1.
Metro teams, that play together on a regular basis, experienced commanding victories over younger Riverina teams, that had trained twice before the tournament.
These squads have been most competitive with country-based teams.
The girls under 14’s defeated two of five metro teams, and took out the country championship on Friday.
The boys under 12’s played a tight game against Country Western, going down 2-1 due to a late goal. Against Country Southern, they were down 3-1 down at half time and came back to win 4-3.

“The growth of all our players has been clear to see,” under 12’s parent Amanda Gray said.
“They’re quicker to the ball, passes are quick, short and to feet.”
