It was around this time last year I organised Shaun Clancy from Humminbird and Minn Kota to come up and do a talk on his products at the Wagga Boat Club. This year I am doing something a little different and putting on a bit of an in-house boat show on October 22. I have organised a few more people who specialise in their particular brand of merchandise. We will be having the following people at Wagga Marine on the Saturday only – Shaun Clancy for Humminbird and Minn Kota (once again), Leonard Mumme for Garmin Electronics, Andrew Wenzel for Honda, Matthew Sheehy for Mercury and Motorguide, Fisheries for fish obviously, Maritime for rules and regulations and the peeps from Wagga Marine.

There will be an on water test drive from 2pm-4pm. There will be two boats of the same model. One will have a 50hp Honda, 55lb Minn Kota Ipilot and a Humminbird Helix 7 SI GPS sounder and the other will have a 50hp Mercury, 55lb Motorguide XI5 and a Garmin 95SV sounder. I will not be on the boats but the specialists in their respective fields will. So if you want to have a look at each product and compare, the opportunity will be there. You have to sign an indemnity form and receive a wrist band to be able to get on a boat. If you are interested give us a call or send us an email.
Last weekend I made mention of a concept boat I am working on at the moment. Well the boat turned up during the week but unfortunately the motor will not be here for another few weeks. I do have to add a few things to the boat before the motor arrives anyway.
I have written about electric trolling motors and the type of batteries that they require to operate correctly before. During the week I received an email from one of my suppliers asking if I wanted to put a forward order in on some new batteries. They are new lithium batteries, the same type that your mobile phone uses except a lot bigger. They are half the weight and nearly twice as many amp hours. A fantastic thing for fishermen using their electric motors consistently. Now here is the kicker: the cost is nearly four times as much and then you will require a special battery charger. I know these batteries are a thing of the future, but to buy an electric motor and a battery that is the same price or a tad more expensive – well let me just say – I will not be keeping one in stock.
With all the rain we are having, it might be a smart thing to leave the river fishing until everything settles down. Fish the impoundments where there is not as much fast flowing water and it’s a little, not much, clearer. There have been a few fish reported in pretty much all the “local” impoundments, so get out and have a go at these, especially in the school holidays. Troll the shallows for some yellows (bit of poetry there) and use your sounder to locate the schools of reddies. There have been some good sized reddies reported coming out of Lake Albert. They are one of the nicest table freshwater fish you can eat.
