A lone thief broke into the South Hay Hotel in the early hours of Monday morning, pinching two charity tins and wheeling out the pub’s safe, which contained more than $30,000.
Owner Sue Vitucci said the response from the community had helped restore her faith in humanity.
The pub has been inundated with flowers, cards and cash since the break-in.
“So many people have been wonderful,” Mrs Vitucci said.
“One young guy won $100 on the pokies on Tuesday and when I went to pay him, he told me to keep it. The staff presented me with flowers and a card, and the card was full of cash. It’s just been amazing.”
She said she had handed back the money donated towards the pub but will forward on money donated to CanAssist.
Police investigations continue.
