The Riverina Dart Tag groups and two Canberra-based groups regularly play in Wagga with ages ranging from 12 to 40.

Andrew Goldstraw, or Goldie as he is known by his fellow Nerf enthusiast, has been organising the monthly “Nerf Wars” for 10 years.

He got involved after his wife convinced him to play.

“It’s similar to paintball and lazer tag but it doesn’t hurt and it doesn’t cost anything,” he said.

Mr Goldstraw’s family play the game which he says gets them away from video games, out of the house and keeping fit.

The Nerf Wars usually attract around 20 to 30 people and are themed humans versus zombies.

Once a player is shot they become a zombie and can continue to play with the last player “alive” considered the winner. No scores are kept and player honesty is used to work out the winner.

Anyone who wants to have a go just needs to supply their own Nerf gun and be over the age of 12 (or if younger parents must stay with them).
