The former Wagga United Crows coach, dropped the clipboard to join his brothers and play for Junee in 2016.

A year on, after being injured, he wants to make a homecoming.

He has expressed an interest in coaching the Crows’ Pascoe Cup team.

It is understood 2016 Crows’ coach Dave ‘Poppy’ McGowan has not yet raised his hand to coach again. 

He still has time to lodge an expression of interest.

“If he wasn't interested, I’d love to take it on again,” Weir said.

“I just miss the club. If I don't get the coaching role, I’ll play. I’ve been there for 10 years. You fall in love with the badge.”

Weir has been in contact with Wagga United club officials, and first-grade captain Daniel Lawrence.

“They were really happy that I was coming back,” he said.

“At what capacity and in what role, we’ll see what the club, what Poppy decides. I’d love to coach and not play.”

Weir played 11 of 17 round games for Junee, marred by injury.

“I can’t fault Junee,” he said.

“I love the club, it’s awesome. Junee was the ideal destination for us three boys. Linc and Adrian, they’ve fallen in love with Junee.”

Weir admitted the travel-time, to Junee and back, has curbed his enthusiasm.

“I wouldn’t say I was at my best or most committed,” he said.

“I’d taken on a new role at work, and I wanted to spend more time with the kids.”

He’s not counting his chickens, but he has been scouting for recruits.

Given the coaching role, Weir has every intention on winning the premiership.

“I miss the tactical side of it, I’m trying to build a team,” he said.

“There are a few players around who are happy to come on board. I would really like to bring Wagga United to the summit again.”
