At this rate, more people than ever will be registered in local senior summer competitions.

With the introduction of the futsal competition at CSU, there were early concerns numbers might drop from the traditional six-a-side summer competition, established 16 years ago by South Wagga Warriors life member Bob McKenzie.

But it’s set to flourish according to Warriors president Stephen Burns.

“A lot of people prefer the outdoor soccer,” he said.

“We have teams that regularly enter, filled with players that don’t play in the winter comp.”

The competition, involving 10 rounds and eight teams per division, runs at Maher Oval on Thursday nights.

Teams can opt to register in three divisions; open (social) at 6.30pm, open (competitive) at 7.20pm and mixed at 8.10pm.

“We’ve already filled one division, there are a couple of slots left in the other two,” Burns said.

“It does get warm, but it’s 20-minute halves, you’re not getting flogged.”

The junior touch football competition at Jubilee Park has been stalled for a month due to boggy conditions.

Burns maintains Maher will be good to go by kick-off on November 17.

“The ground’s in pretty nick,” he said.
