That’s the message from the Bulldogs camp as they started their climb back up the Riverina League ladder with four key signings this week.
New Turvey Park coach Mitch Sykes announced the homecoming of Andrew Emery and Josh Ashcroft, plus the recruitment of Clint Shields and Kodie O’Malley.
Sykes said it was the perfect start to the Bulldogs’ recruitment campaign.
“It’s definitely a good start, when we went and recruited, we targeted blokes to fill the spine and the best thing about these blokes, is they are all spine players,” Sykes said.
“They’re blokes that can win their own footy.”
Emery, a Turvey Park product, won the Hume League rising star award this year after spending the past two seasons at Lockhart, predominantly as a centre-half-back.
Shields joins the Sykes brothers, Mitch and Jeremy, and Emery as those making the switch from Lockhart. Shields kicked 91 goals over the last two seasons.
Ashcroft, a premiership player at The Rock-Yerong Creek, will boost the Bulldogs midfield after two strong years at the Magpies.
O’Malley will slot in at centre-half-forward after recently playing in the Farrer League grand final with Coleambally.
After two winless seasons, Turvey Park has been able to add six recruits and Sykes said there is a great feeling around the club.
“There is a real buzz at the moment,” he said.
“We had a meeting last week and had 30 to 40 turn up and that was just from the current group really, because of that buzz.”
The Bulldogs’ have also re-signed the majority of their playing group, including the likes of Tim Doyle and Jack Brooks.
Turvey Park committeeman Blair Campbell said the signings are great news for the club.
“We’re rapt to have some Turvey Park people wanting to come back to the club, as well as having others come on board,” Campbell said.
