Tigers returned to the top of the Riverina League on Sunday with a four-point victory over Leeton-Whitton providing the club with their first premiership since 2007.
Described as ‘overdue’ by Tigers president Scott Bance, the future appears bright for the men from Robertson Oval.
Canberra-based defender Dale Walker is the only player to confirm his departure, while John Anstee is the only other likely loss after gaining employment in Deniliquin.
Fifteen of Tigers’ premiership 22 from Sunday are club juniors and Bance said
“There’s probably a few that will move on with uni and things like that but they will still have a core there to work with,” Bance said after the win.
“We’ll just need to probably top up on a few of those gaps of those blokes who are leaving,”
Tigers’ premiership captain-coach Shaun Campbell has already re-signed for another season, along with the majority of the playing squad.
Anstee, a popular player at Tigers and across the league after six seasons here, is yet to make a formal decision on his playing future.
With a maiden senior premiership under his belt, Anstee conceded the time has now arrived to make a tough decision.
“Now I can think about that with work over there (in Deniliquin) and stuff,” Anstee said out on the ground after the win.
“It’s a great way to finish the year, the last six years.”
If it was to be his last game in Tigers colours, Anstee could not have asked for a better way to go out.
“Amazing, absolutely amazing,” he said.
“Everyone here has put in a tireless effort, the committee, a lot of bloody tough work that’s come to this.
“On our home deck, I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
In further positive signs, Tigers also won reserve grade.
