A gate of $26,770, up $510 on last year, was recorded as Wagga Tigers claimed a thrilling four-point grand final win over Leeton-Whitton.
Riverina League president Rob Ash made the call to move the grand final to Robertson Oval last month due to the unsafe nature of a waterlogged Narrandera Sportsground.
“The gate was sensational, it was actually more than last year,” Ash said.
“You wonder how good it would have been if we had a dry day.”
Ash described the Robertson Oval playing surface as ‘amazing’ given the amount of rainfall in recent times.
Ash, however, was quick to point out that the gate profits were not everything went it comes to determining the grand final venue.
“It’s not the top priority. The whole league community comes first,” he said.
